Dear Lovers of the Sun, Sea and all things Mediterranean
If there’s one thing I know about Greece, it’s the way in which it has the ability to completely open up your heart and soul and have you humming a sweet tune, skipping into the sun, the minute you step foot on Greek soil…
It’s as though there is an internal knowing in your body that is suddenly activated as your insides respond with your heart singing loudly and every cell in your entire being completely coming alive with the thought of what awaits: endless blissful sunny days that fix a permanent smile on your face, daily swims in pristine waters that restore the mind, delicious feasts to nourish a happy belly and send you off into a deep restful slumber, unforgettable sunsets that soothe the soul, painting the landscape in a golden glow and the chime of goat bells caught in the late afternoon breeze, with wild thyme from surrounding hills perfuming the air making you feel light headed and bursting in joyful happiness…
This is where the thought of deadlines, everyday pressures and the urgency to tick off your million different tasks comes to a complete standstill and where you can finally give yourself permission to relax. There is no 24-hour race around the clock. There’s no traffic jams, feeling upset about an argument with a loved one, getting frustrated that things aren’t going your way, feeling fatigued after another late night home from work, your back aching, your feet sore and your head pounding. Instead, what the slow pace of island life welcomes is an invitation to inspire the senses, fuel your creativity, let go of the all-consuming worry that occupies your mind and surrender to the simple everyday pleasures that become a normal part of life.
This is a chance to dive into the wellspring of your happiness. It’s a chance to delight in the simple beauty that inspires the Mediterranean. It’s feeling the warmth of the sun on your back after a day at the beach, it’s selfishly lingering over breathtaking views that sweep the ocean, it’s helping yourself to seconds and thirds of homemade feasts that your insides crave, it’s marvelling at the beauty of the whitewashed homes and cobblestone streets that dot the landscape and aimlessly roaming the streets savouring the picture perfect golden light. It’s exchanging the best-kept secrets with the locals as they impart their knowledge, dose you up on the best local produce and give you the insiders guide to living a happy, healthy and abundant life…
So often we overlook the wonder of simple things and how much they have the ability to reconnect us with what’s important and help steer our lives back to balance. When you tune in to the things that give you great delight, you spark your passion, ignite your internal fire and you remind the body of how good it feels to do the things you love. When I step foot in Greece, I’m encouraged to be my most uninhibited self. Walking through the villages, speaking with the locals, smelling the aroma of the Mediterranean invites utter happiness and helps me replenish all that I constantly put out. The more it invites me to let go, the more I’m encouraged to surrender and take a giant leap, diving into the beauty of this magical country wholeheartedly…
