In the art of inspiring others, we have a responsibility in the way we communicate. We can unwillingly damage or cause unnecessary conflict simply because we have failed to communicate from a deep level of Truth.
We’re lucky to have people in our life that aim to bring out our best selves. They see beyond our imperfections, listen to us patiently when we are in a state of crises and every now and then, selflessly act as our confidants at times when we need it most…
We receive invaluable lessons from different sources. It can be the wise words of a friend, a quote read in a book, song lyrics, a fleeting moment…or sometimes it can come with brutal force, cornering us in an effort to reveal a very confronting reality. One way or another, regardless of how it presents itself, we end up finally facing our own a-ha moment and are invited to act. Sometimes we change, sometimes we stay the same. It depends on how ready we are to make an effort to shift…
When it comes to the art of inspiring others, we have a responsibility in the way we communicate. We can unwillingly damage or cause unnecessary conflict simply because we have failed to communicate from a deep level of Truth. We avoid honesty because it is uncomfortable. What we end up doing as a result can amount to causing irreparable damage to another. Certain comments made in passing may seem harmless, we hardly consider them, but the way they are being received is completely out of our control. Once they are spoken, they cannot be undone. With enough persistence through our mindless actions, we result in causing massive fractures.
It is easy and quick to break something that can take a lifetime to repair.
We are creatures of habit. Sometimes awfully stubborn at adapting to change. However, when something we’ve done wrong is brought to our attention and we feel it in our entire being, then it is our responsibility to fix it. No matter how awkward it makes us feel. Wrongs need to be Righted. If nothing else, simply for the sake of the other person recognising that maybe, just maybe, they have finally been heard…
We need to be conscious about how we influence one another. What those close to us may observe of us and how they are being impacted. It’s a lesson in becoming more mindful and correcting past mistakes in an effort not to repeat them.
One of the most profound quotes I heard recently came from the most unexpected source. It wasn’t the sage advice of a world-renowned guru, famous writer or other such inspiring personality. It came from the heart and mind of my 12-year old niece. Undoubtedly an old soul incarnate, she quietly sat beside me on my bed and within a short time had inscribed a number of different inspirational quotes that she shared with me. One that imprinted itself on my heart and sums up in its entirety our efforts to change, was this:
Your journey is your own. People may walk it with you, no one can walk it for you…
Never underestimate how impactful you can be to another – good or bad. Impactful has the capacity to fracture or inspire. We influence one another everyday. Choose your words of communication carefully. The most subtle actions can affect great change.
Dedicated to our most unexpected guides, who serve to elevate and inspire us…
Happy travels…Paula x
